Review: 2018 Hyundai Elantra

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra has arrived at Waikem Hyundai in Massillon, Ohio. This year's model has new trim levels that cater to every driver's needs. Plus there's a slew of new technology options at a better price than before. Add in new style options and that 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty, and you can't a find a better choice in the midsized market.
Blind Spot on more vehicles
More than 80% of the new Elantras comes standard with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alerts and a backup camera. Just a few years ago, these were brand new features only available on the top of line trims. Now they're affordable for everyone, and even better, you stay safe on the daily drive.
Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alerts keep you and everyone else on the road safe. There are lights on the side mirrors that light up when there's someone in the blind spot. Plus the Rear Cross Traffic Alerts alert you if something's happening behind you. That keeps you safe when backing up, preventing a potential collision with pedestrians or vehicles coming down the road.

New SEL Trim
The changes to the 2018 Hyundai Elantra are highlighted by a new SEL trim level. SEL replaces the SE Popular package, and it’s an upgrade at a comparable price. Your Elantra SEL includes:
· Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist
· Seven-inch Display Audio system AM/FM/HD Radio/SiriusXM with six speakers
· Rearview camera with dynamic guidelines
· Android Auto
· Apple CarPlay
· 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 R16 tires
· Four-wheel disc brakes
· Heated outside mirrors
· Auto headlamp control
· 3.5-inch TFT mono cluster display
· Rear cup holders (mounted rear of center console)
SE is still your standard trim level, and standard options include Bluetooth, USB port, cruise control, power locks and windows, air and cruise control.
Best in Class Features
The Elantra is the first vehicle in its class to offer a hands-free smart trunk. Say your hands are full and the keys are in your pocket. With this option, get close enough to the trunk and the sensor will automatically open your trunk, a safe and easy way to load up groceries or heavy boxes.
The Elantra has the option of multiple USB ports to keep everyone's phone charged. It's also the only one with available heated front and rear seats and the first midsized vehicle with an advanced seat and mirror memory system.

Top Safety Pick Plus
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra is an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus, the best of the best for safe driving. We talked about the Blind Spot Detection system already, and the Elantra also has optional Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control. The Elantra also comes standard with 7 airbags.

Three Engine Choices
The Elantra comes standard with a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and up to 38 highway miles per gallon. Upgrade to the Elantra Sport model to get a 1.6L turbocharged engine that produces up to 201 horsepower and 33 highway miles per gallon.
Those looking for even more fuel economy should chose the 1.4L turbocharged engine with up to 40 highway miles per gallon.
More than 95% of Elantras have automatic transmission with a select few manual transmissions for fans of the stick shift.

Style
The Elantra has a new machine gray exterior paint color. All-in-all there are 8 different exterior paint color choices with four interior color and fabric choices. Chose between 15, 16, 17 or 18 inch wheel designs, depending on your trim level.
Other great tech and convenience options include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Navigation, heated leather seats, and a sunroof.
